In Rensselaer County, Troy Police were called at around 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, by a man claiming that his car had been stolen at gunpoint by a young male.

During their conversation with the victim, additional officers spotted the vehicle being driven in downtown Troy, near 3rd and Fulton streets.

Police attempted to stop the suspect, but the driver immediately fled, leading to a short vehicle pursuit, police said.

The suspect eventually lost control and crashed near 3rd and Washington streets, striking several parked cars.

He then fled on foot, but was caught by police a short distance away.

The suspect, whose name is being withheld due to his age, was identified only as a resident of Troy.

He was arrested on multiple charges, including felony criminal possession of stolen property, along with unlawfully fleeing police and reckless endangerment, both misdemeanors.

He was also charged with unlawful imprisonment after police found a 16-year-old passenger in the car who claimed he was held against his will.

Following his arrest, the teen suspect was brought to a juvenile detention facility.

Neither the suspect or the passenger were injured in the ordeal.

Wednesday’s alleged crime spree was not the boy’s first brush with law enforcement.

He was arrested just eight days prior by Troy and Albany police and brought to New York City, where he’s facing robbery and assault charges stemming from an incident there, according to police.

“The reckless acts being committed by this individual are concerning to our members, just as they are to other members within our community,” Assistant Police Chief Steven Barker said.

“We have made prior attempts to connect the individual with the available community resources that seek to provide support for juveniles.

"The conduct he continues to engage in places our community at risk which necessitates the enforcement of criminal charges.”
